Itinerary
Get Your First Glimpse of Local Sights
Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City! You will be greeted by our knowledgeable local English-speaking guide who will escort you to the air-conditioned transportation. Get ready to start your journey through the city in style and ease.
The first stop of the day will be a local flower market where you will be rewarded with the delightful aromas of fresh flowers sourced from various parts of the country. Following this, hop on a cyclo for a ride through the busy streets of Ho Chi Minh City. Take this opportunity to experience the dynamic pulse of the city, with street food vendors and a constant flow of traffic combining to create the city’s unmistakable liveliness.
See the Chinatown and the War Remnants Museum
After soaking up the city’s vibrant streets, we’ll head to Thien Hau Temple, a 200-year-old Chinese-influenced structure with immense historical and cultural significance. Observe locals as they prepare incense and make wishes, beautifully reflecting the devotion and artistry of the Chinese community in the area.
Subsequently, prepare for a moving exhibit on Vietnam’s troubled history at the War Remnants Museum. This museum provides a unique look into the civilian impact of the Vietnam-American War. Even if you’re not particularly interested in the war, you should not leave the city without visiting. The museum shows images, some of which are deeply upsetting, particularly those depicting the far-reaching havoc caused by US napalm bombs.
Marvel at Ho Chi Minh City’s Iconic Landmark
Independence Palace(opens in a new tab) will be your next stop. This iconic landmark is a live witness to the city’s ups and downs, with pivotal decisions made and diplomatic discussions held there. Also known as the Reunification Palace, it was the final target of the Liberation Army of South Vietnam and marked the reunification of North and South Vietnam.
After your visit to the historic Independence Palace, go for a tasty typical Vietnamese lunch, where you will savour the aromatic dishes that define the country’s culinary heritage.
Walk Towards Architectural Magnificence
Nothing completes your city exploration better than a walking tour to the city’s most important sites. Visit the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the nearby Central Post Office, both of which were constructed by the French. The church has a system of stained glass windows depicting saints and stories in the Bible while the post office stands out with its yellow exterior, arched doors, and windows.
From the Post Office, your guide will show you the historic CIA Headquarters and tell you the story of the last US helicopter flying out of Saigon in 1975, as well as the last US Operation in Vietnam – Frequent Wind. To enhance your sightseeing tour, continue with stops at the Opera House and the City Hall. If you’re in the mood for a panoramic view of the city, opt for a visit to the Bitexco Financial Tower Skydeck to see spectacular views from its observation deck (with additional charge).
After the last stop, our guide will take you back to the port in plenty of time for your departure. Don’t forget to say goodbye to your guide and ask for any final recommendations.
See What Our Guests are Saying
I now refer my friends, family and colleagues, as well as book all of my tours, accommodation and flights with Maika because I feel very lucky to have finally found an organisation in Asia that gives me the confidence to do so.
The tour was very well organized, and the guide spoke very good English. We got to see and experience so many things: Besides visiting a pagoda and Buddha statue, we also went on a boat ride (with a stop to enjoy a coconut drink) and visited local businesses producing rice paper, conical hats and mats. We had fresh fruit and tea for a snack and Pho soup for lunch which was delicious! We had such a good day and would highly recommend this tour!
We went on this tour, two families of four, with children aged 9-12 years old. We were really happy with it and highly recommend. Lin was our guide and she was fantastic, would really do a trip with her again. It was nice to do this privately and easy to adjust with Lin if needed. Maika helped us book the accommodation in Can Tho which we really appreciated. Would highly recommend and for sure do again.
You did a great job looking after all of our family of 7. The kids enjoyed all the tours and especially the Mekong cruise …as did we……because the kids were so happy we got to enjoy some time to ourselves too. I would recommend Maika Tours if your thinking of visiting Vietnam!
