Port Permit Service
- Opt to purchase port permit service: For a fee of 25 USD/person, our guide and transport can go inside the port, right to your cruise ship for pick-up and drop-off. We recommend this service for safety and comfort during the hot or rainy days, as well as a reliable transport service.

Itinerary
Admire the Beauty of Back Beach
Welcome to dry land! Your private guide will be waiting for you at the port and will greet you with a welcome sign and a big smile. Once we make our way to Vung Tau, our introduction to this pretty seaside city begins at Back Beach where we will walk along the coast with the sand between our toes. You are more than welcome to go in for a refreshing dip or to wander the length of the beach appreciating the sea breeze. We will then make our way to Mount Nho to snap photos of the famous Christ the King statue. This vantage point offers incredible views of the sea and Hon Ba, an islet with a beautiful temple worthy of a few photos!
Next Stop, Pagoda of Nirvana
Vung Tau boasts the most Buddha statues in Vietnam, but the Pagoda of Nirvana, (also well-known as Pagoda of the Reclining Buddha), is certainly one of the most impressive. At 12-metres high with a 21-metre flag tower, this statue is well worth the visit! Once we’ve taken all the photos we can, we’ll continue to a tranquil and picturesque park at Front Beach where we can enjoy the nature, sea breeze, and interesting sculptures dotted around the park. This is where families spend lazy days, so you can get an insight into the way of life of the locals.
Enjoy Panoramic Views at White Palace
With our appetites worked up it is time to enjoy a local lunch at a famous, seafood restaurant on the seafront. You can’t get fresher seafood than this! If you have any food allergies or special dietary requirements, please contact us beforehand and we can try our best to cater to your needs.
With our bellies full, the next stop is the White Palace! Perched 50 metres up ‘Big Mountain’, White Palace is a beautiful colonial-era mansion once built for French Governor-General Paul Doumer. As well as boasting the best panoramic views of the ocean, White Palace displays carefully-preserved antiques from the colonial era. A visit here is like stepping into a centuries-old time-capsule!
Last Stop, Whale Temple
The last leg of our trip involves making our way to the top of a hill on which a lighthouse perches. Built by the French, this lighthouse offers 360-degree vistas of the ocean and surrounding city. Definitely do not forget your cameras for this stop!
Then, we’ll make our way to Whale Temple, a popular stop with tourists and locals alike! This ornate temple is dedicated to the whale and is the site where fishermen traditionally pray for their safety. This stop offers a fascinating insight into the belief systems of the locals here.
Unfortunately, we are at the end of our tour. Your English-speaking guide will return you to port in plenty of time to make your cruise!
See What Our Guests are Saying
I now refer my friends, family and colleagues, as well as book all of my tours, accommodation and flights with Maika because I feel very lucky to have finally found an organisation in Asia that gives me the confidence to do so.
The tour was very well organized, and the guide spoke very good English. We got to see and experience so many things: Besides visiting a pagoda and Buddha statue, we also went on a boat ride (with a stop to enjoy a coconut drink) and visited local businesses producing rice paper, conical hats and mats. We had fresh fruit and tea for a snack and Pho soup for lunch which was delicious! We had such a good day and would highly recommend this tour!
We went on this tour, two families of four, with children aged 9-12 years old. We were really happy with it and highly recommend. Lin was our guide and she was fantastic, would really do a trip with her again. It was nice to do this privately and easy to adjust with Lin if needed. Maika helped us book the accommodation in Can Tho which we really appreciated. Would highly recommend and for sure do again.
You did a great job looking after all of our family of 7. The kids enjoyed all the tours and especially the Mekong cruise …as did we……because the kids were so happy we got to enjoy some time to ourselves too. I would recommend Maika Tours if your thinking of visiting Vietnam!
