Duration

All private tours are approximately 8 hours or longer depending on your time constraints. At the end of the private tour, we always make sure that you return on time to board the cruise ship.

Port Permit Service

Opt to purchase port permit service: For a fee of 25 USD/person, our guide and transport can go inside the port, right to your cruise ship for pick-up and drop-off. This requires passport details such as full name, passport number, DOB, expiry date and nationality. We recommend this service for safety and comfort during the hot or rainy days, as well as a reliable transport service.
Opt not to purchase port service fee: Please walk out of the port for 15 minutes – 20 minutes where our guide and driver will welcome you with a sign and a smile. This does not include a fee.

Max Group Size

We can accommodate a big group of up to 35 people. However, we recommend a max of 15/group to get the best experience.

Itinerary

Pass Rice Paddies & Orchards!

You will be met at your arrival port by your English-speaking guide, with a name sign and smile, they will take you to the incredible Mekong Delta in your private, air-conditioned vehicle. Take in the countless scenes of the surrounding countryside and the agricultural way of life of the locals. Your guide will explain the course of the river as we pass yellow rice paddies and fruit orchards, and you will learn of its origins in the snowy mountains of Tibet. This drive is a comfortable means of observing traditional Vietnamese life pass right before your eyes!

Witness Colourful Markets on the Mekong

A private ‘sampan’ (traditional motorised boat) will be waiting for you as we arrive at Cai Be. Prepare to embark on an unforgettable exploration of a fascinating waterway. The river here is crowded with floating markets selling colourful fruits, vegetables, flowers, and seasonal goods. Tourist-crowded streets will seem a million miles away as we witness traditional trading and the way of life of the locals on the water. Don’t forget your camera for this vibrant display!

Explore Tan Phong Island

Swap your sampan for rowing boats as we venture into the smaller, more secluded canals of the delta. The quieter canals are the perfect place to witness a slower pace of life as we pass under tropical canopies and paddle the serene water. We’ll make our way to dry land next as we explore the island of Tan Phong and enjoy distinctive South-West Vietnamese music with a live performance. Bikes will be provided if you wish to explore this beautiful island further!

Enjoy a Traditional Lunch With a Local Family

Along the way, we will visit local families and learn how they use the land to craft everything from delicate rice paper to the sturdy roofs of their homes. The families will treat us to Mekong delicacies for lunch which include freshly made spring rolls, fried pumpkin flower, and beautifully braised pork soaked in coconut juice. Before we make our way back to port we’ll visit Cao Dai Temple, uncovering native religious beliefs and having a chance to admire the art on the walls of the temple. Your guide will then take you back to port in plenty of time for your cruise departure!

We booked a shore excursion sailing on the Celebrity Solstice, the owner Mr. Giang Vu, was very helpful in assisting me in booking all of the tours at each Vietnam port we docked in. Mr Giang organised an amazing day trip for our group in our own private coach & a very knowledgeable & witty guide! We arrived at Cai Be where we boarded our motorised boat to cruise along the river, stopping at a floating fruit boat to purchase local fruits. We were also served some delicious local fruits on the boat. We then stopped to see the local handicraft of local merchants preparing coconut candy & pop-rice – another wonderful experience We then changed to rowing boats to explore the secluded canals of the delta which was very interesting. We had a lovely lunch of Mekong delicacies at a family run restaurant. After lunch we headed back to our hotel in Saigon.
It was a memorable day & an amazing experience had by all in the group

We chose Maika Tour based on the many positive feedbacks we saw. The tour was easy and enjoyable for us. Our tour guide, Nam, was very kind and supportive in assisting my dad who uses a wheelchair. Some parts of the route were rough, but we made it through with Nam and the team’s help. The tour was customized to suit my dad’s needs. We had the chance to eat our meal which were prepared and cooked on the boat. The food was delicious and my parents enjoyed it. Everyone is so kind including the driver and the people on the boat. A friend of mine introduced me to Giang Vu. He helped me a lot and got me a private tour of Hue and I also did the Mekong vallwy, Ho Chi Min City and Cu Chi tunnels with him. It was an amazing trip and the took very good care of us and the guides were very knowledgeable.
I did so many fun things. Went around Hue on a bike, went on a motorickshaw in the Mekong Delta, drank snake wine, held a python, held a bees nest, listened to traditional music and ate some traditional food!

I am a happy returning customer to Maika tours, the 2 times I have visited Saigon and Vietnam I have used them. This January we did a full day tour of cu chi tunnels and the Mekong delta due to time constraints.
