Itinerary
Travel Into the Heritage Heart of Thailand

wat pho temple

Once you disembark from your cruise ship at Laem Chabang Port, you will be greeted by a local English-speaking guide before being transferred to the city centre of Bangkok. The drive normally takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

The capital of Thailand has some of the most intricate temples in Southeast Asia, not to mention its vibrant markets and rich cultural heritage. Whatever you are interested in, Bangkok has something to suit your taste perfectly.

For an introduction to Thailand’s spiritual traditions, we will make a stop at Wat Pho, a magnificent temple complex featuring a golden reclining Buddha. One of the oldest temples in Bangkok, Wat Pho bewitches visitors with many little details, from tiles to mosaic-covered chedi stupas.

Witness How Life Thrives Along the Riverbanks

thonburi canals

Bangkok is dubbed ‘Venice of the East” for its extensive network of canals. You will begin your adventure on a unique longtail boat to uncover amazing traditions centred around the rivers. As you cruise along the canals of Thonburi, take a closer look at houses on stilts, coconut palms, and local vendors selling goods on their boats. This is an interesting contrast to the bustling city life and the towering skyscrapers that dominate the skyline.

Next, you will pass Wat Arun, also known as Temple of Dawn, one of the most recognisable landmarks of Bangkok’s skyline on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River (the Thonburi side). Climb up to the middle level of the grand pagoda, and you will be treated to a breathtaking view of the river as well as the Grand Palace and Wat Pho on the opposite riverbank. As you get closer to the intricate details, it’s impossible not to notice the fabulously ornate floral mosaics made from broken Chinese porcelain.

After the temple visits, continue your cruise to The Maharaj pier and enjoy a typical Thai lunch at a local riverfront restaurant.

Save the Best for Last – The Grand Palace of Bangkok

the grand palace of bangkok

Following lunch, make your way to The Grand Palace, a sophisticated complex of colourful pavilions, blooming gardens, and magnificent temples. The palace once served as the residence of the Kings of Siam and the royal family. Today, it houses government offices within its historic walls. While you wander around its grounds, you will gain essential insights into Thai history and culture.

Visit Wat Phra Kaew, commonly called the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, located within the precincts of the Grand Palace. This sacred Buddhist temple complex houses Thailand’s most precious national treasure – the Emerald Buddha. Your guide will explain the meaning behind important details that make up the temple, from glittering mosaics to unique mythical creatures.

If time permits, we will head to Wat Traimit – the Temple of the Golden Buddha before transferring back to Laem Chabang Port. Please note that this option is available for an additional fee of $5.
