Mr Giang organised an amazing day trip for our group in our own private coach & a very knowledgeable & witty guide! We arrived at Cai Be where we boarded our motorised boat to cruise along the river, stopping at a floating fruit boat to purchase local fruits. We were also served some delicious local fruits on the boat. We then stopped to see the local handicraft of local merchants preparing coconut candy & pop-rice – another wonderful experience We then changed to rowing boats to explore the secluded canals of the delta which was very interesting. We had a lovely lunch of Mekong delicacies at a family run restaurant. After lunch we headed back to our hotel in Saigon.
It was a memorable day & an amazing experience had by all in the group
Thank you to Mr Giang who did an amazing job organising this tour for us a reasonable price. He was easy to work with and very professional at all times.
We would highly recommend using Maika Tours to organise your tours if you are ever in Saigon!

Itinerary
Journey to Heart of Vietnam’s Rice Bowl
The Mekong Delta can be easily accessed from My Tho, Tien Giang Province – just 1.5 hours south of Ho Chi Minh City, making it a perfect day trip for those with limited time. It is literally the rice bowl of Vietnam for its vast stretches of lush paddy fields thriving on fertile wetlands.
Even on a short day tour, you can capture typical moments of locals’s life revolving around the rivers – getting around, catching fish, and managing their orchards. Though the dominating scene here is a vast network of canals and rivers crisscrossing each other, there’s so much more to see and do, with nature reserves, ancient traditions, floating markets and tropical islands.
Experience a Bucolic Islet
Once we enter the province of Tien Giang, step aboard our private boat for a cruise along the Mekong River and make a stop at one of the four sacred islets of the Mekong Delta – Thoi Son Islet (also known as Unicorn Islet). Thoi Son Islet is the largest islet among the four and boasts abundant orchards and local specialties, making it a perfect setting for ecotourism.
To gain a deeper insight into the local life, visit a local family and a typical orchard filled with fresh tropical fruits. It’s time to taste these freshly picked seasonal delights while listening to traditional southern Vietnamese folk music.
Tour around Handicraft Workshops
After savouring different flavours, continue your exploration in Ben Tre province. Ben Tre is made up of three different islets, including An Hoa, Minh and Bao, as well as the alluvial deposits of four rivers – Tien, Ba Lai, Ham Luong, and Co Chien.
Our stop will be An Hoa Islet, where you will discover why Ben Tre earns its fame as the “Kingdom of oconuts”. Visit a family-owned workshop and witness many steps involved in the process of making coconut candies, from extracting coconut milk to wrapping and packaging.
Next off, another interesting thing worth your attention is the colourful art of mat weaving. Mats can be used for various purposes, such as sleeping, dining, and sitting, both in homes and places of worship. In Vietnamese culture, mats are also considered a symbol of warmth and hospitality.
The workshops have filled your curiosity with intricate processes, and now it’s time to fill your empty stomach with local delicacies. Enjoy a motor cart ride (around 8 km) through coconut palms in Phu An Hoa to Vuon Dau restaurant for a classic Mekong-style lunch.
Enjoy the Cool Breezes of Coconut-Lined Canals
Following the special Mekong lunch, transfer to a smaller rowing boat to get deeper into the narrow coconut-lined canals. You will surely be amazed at the boatman’s remarkable skills. Then, get on a motor boat and move slowly along the river banks lined with fishing farms as we make our way back to My Tho.
As we leave the Mekong Delta for Ho Chi Minh City, feel free to ask your expert guide some more questions about the local culture. Your private driver will drop you off at your hotel or any other location previously arranged.
See What Our Guests are Saying
Our family or two adults and three kids enjoyed our terrific guide named “Tan” for both our one day tours out of HCMC
Tan was a wealth of information and had a great sense of humour. He took the time to drop us to the airport when we needed to catch a plane after our tour. The company was easy to communicate with to book the tour and were on time etc. I highly recommend this company and especially our guide Tan, thanks for making our visit to Vietnam wonderful
I was go to Vietnam with a friend who last minute was unable to go, so I went alone with fingers crossed. But no worries because Giang and his team including Tien in Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta and Charlie in Central Vietnam, including Hoi An and Hue made it a spectacular experience.
From the busy, light filled streets of Saigon to the busy river “road” of the Mekong River carrying rice, produce and materials to market, to the charming communities of Hoi An and Hue, I felt immersed in this amazing world. All due to this caring amazing team. And, yup, they know where the good food is.
A trip down to the Mekon Delta is a must for anyone staying around or in Saigon and definitely worthwhile traveling with this tour company. Our tour guide Tiger (who incidentally I used twice) is so knowledgeable and has a wealth of enthusiasm made the day for us both.
We both look forward to returning at some point in the future and will definitely be using this company again.
My husband and I booked the full day Mekong Delta tour. We ended up with a private tour as nobody else booked in. Our tour guide, Tan was knowledgable and funny. He shared a lot about the history and stories about Vietnam and the people who live along the Mekong. The car ride to Mekong was long (2hrs) but we had a clean, comfy and most importantly, air conditioned Toyota Innova to take us there.
The day’s activities were varied: from relaxing boat rides to bike rides to walking through villages on the islands to trying different tropical fruits before finishing up with a delicious lunch!
All in all, it was a great experience! The price wAs also very reasonable for a full day tour. Would highly recommend it to anyone:)
A friend of mine introduced me to Giang Vu. He helped me a lot and got me a private tour of Hue and I also did the Mekong vallwy, Ho Chi Min City and Cu Chi tunnels with him. It was an amazing trip and the took very good care of us and the guides were very knowledgeable.
I did so many fun things. Went around Hue on a bike, went on a motorickshaw in the Mekong Delta, drank snake wine, held a python, held a bees nest, listened to traditional music and ate some traditional food!
Amazing experience, reliable people and I would recommend them anytime!!
I am a happy returning customer to Maika tours, the 2 times I have visited Saigon and Vietnam I have used them. This January we did a full day tour of cu chi tunnels and the Mekong delta due to time constraints. The positive things with Maika tours is smooth booking, on time pick-up, private car, good safe driver, excellent tour guide and they plan the trip so you don’t have to wait in line with other tourists. Our Gide was Long, excellent guide, English level and friendly!
We booked two days with Maika tours. Both were private. One day was to Mekong delta and the other Cu Chi tunnels. We had well orgznised fully private two days. The guide was knowledgable and spoke good English. Everything was timed, and we ran smoothly through the itinerary. The best part in Mekong delta was the rowing boat ride. Overall, the day gave us a good glimpse of the life in the delta. The second day was dedicated to the tunnels. We were guided away from the crowds which is a huge advantage. Cu Chi tunnrls is a place to learn aboit the war (together with the war museum in Saigon).
Thank Maika tours for these two days!
We did the private Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta Full Day Tour with 8 friends. We got picked up with a nice private van and had the whole day a fun, tasty and intriguing day. Mr. Sim was great and explained a lot. The cu chi tunnels as well as the Mekong delta were great. Would certainly recommend!!
