Itinerary
A Quick Glimpse Into Vietnam’s History

a historic mausoleum

The capital city of Vietnam is filled with rich history, cultural and architectural wonders, which draw visitors all year round. Visiting Hanoi is not simply a sightseeing tour; it’s an in-depth journey through a thousand years of history. You will meet your English-speaking guide at Cai Lan Port or Hai Phong Port. Join our small group for a warm introduction to Hanoi’s distinctiveness.

The first stop of the day is Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, a solemn tribute to the nation’s beloved leader, Ho Chi Minh. The tomb is a solid square block with 3 layers, designed to withstand floods, bombings and earthquakes of up to magnitude 7.

Next, head to B52 Huu Tiep Lake, a living testament to the resilience of the Vietnamese. Here, a B-52 bomber was shot down by Vietnamese soldiers just before the war ended. The site is now recognised as a historic site and considered a symbol of victory of the “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the air.”

Savour Traditional Architecture and Culinary Delights

the temple of literature

Hanoi is where you can admire an interesting blend of architectural influences from Southeast Asia, France, and China. The Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university, is your next stop. The temple, with its harmonious layout, showcases the locals’ respect for education and literature. If your visit coincides with the study holidays, you will see local students gather here to pray for good scores.

Following your visit to the Temple of Literature, satisfy your appetite with a lunchtime feast of Hanoi’s specialties. Then, make your way to Hoa Lo Prison. Also ironically regarded as “Hanoi Hilton,” the prison once witnessed immense suffering and the unwavering courage of Vietnamese patriots who endured torture and death years ago. Be prepared to see some unsettling displays that vividly recreate the harsh realities of prison life.

Experience the True Bustling Heart of Hanoi

a street vendor in the old quarter

Nowhere else does the energetic vibes of Hanoi manifest more than in the Old Quarter. Dating back to the 13th century, this neighbourhood features countless shops selling almost everything, from handicrafts, textiles, and ceramics to votive paper, herbs, and many more. A stroll through the streets named for their primary goods or services is definitely a must for your Hanoi tour.

Just a short distance from the busy Old Quarter lies a tranquil lake named Hoan Kiem. The name of the lake stems from the old legend in which a king returned a magical sword here. Enjoy a peaceful walk over a strikingly red bridge leading to Ngoc Son Temple, an 18th-century temple on a small island in the heart of the lake.

Make the most of your free time for some more photo opportunities. Finally, it’s time to bid farewell to the ancient charm of Hanoi. Our guide and driver will drop you back to the port for your next departure.
