Itinerary
Feel the Refreshing Embrace of the Sea Breeze
Your private guide will be waiting for you at the port and will greet you with a welcome sign and a big smile. Once we make our way to Vung Tau, our introduction to this pretty seaside city begins at Hoa Long Market – a typical example of how lively a traditional Vietnamese market can be.
For more local interactions, we will visit a local family’s home, where you’ll see the traditional process of making rice wine and delve into the rich local traditions. Vietnamese rice wine, a traditional alcoholic beverage made from fermented rice, is a cultural symbol deeply woven into the fabric of Vietnamese society.
Step Back in Time to the Historic Tunnels
To continue, explore the Long Phuoc Tunnel complex to uncover insights into the Vietnam War and the resilience of the local people. Less well-known than the Cu Chi Tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City, these tunnels – used by Viet Cong soldiers during the war with the French and the Vietnam War – still offer memorable experiences for visitors.
Afterward, take a break to enjoy coffee at a local coffee shop – a perfect opportunity to chat with residents and listen to their vivid stories. Make the most of stops along the way to capture photos of the scenic rice fields, and visit a 150-year-old ancient house, where multiple generations still live together.
Following your in-depth exploration, enjoy lunch at Ganh Hao, a well-regarded local seafood restaurant for the freshest catch around! If you have any food allergies or special dietary requirements, please contact us beforehand and we can try our best to cater to your needs.
Enjoy Panoramic Views of the City
With our bellies full, we’ll drive up a small hill for panoramic views of Vung Tau, including a visit to the Vung Tau Lighthouse. Built by the French, this lighthouse offers 360-degree vistas of the ocean and surrounding city. Definitely do not forget your cameras for this stop!
Next off, more photo opportunities await at the famous Christ the King statue. This vantage point offers incredible views of the sea and Hon Ba, an islet slowly reveals itself at low tide!
Embark on a Journey Through History and Culture
After a stroll along the bonsai garden at Front Beach, explore the historic White Palace (Villa Blanche in French). White Palace is a beautiful colonial-era mansion once built for French Governor-General Paul Doumer. As well as boasting the best panoramic views of the ocean, White Palace displays carefully-preserved antiques from the colonial era. A visit here is like stepping into a centuries-old time-capsule!
Continue your journey through the main streets, passing by Ben Dinh fishing village and stopping at the Whale Temple. This ornate temple is dedicated to the whale and is the site where fishermen traditionally pray for their safety. This stop offers a fascinating insight into the belief systems of the locals here.
At the end of the tour, your English-speaking guide will return you to the port with plenty of time to catch your cruise!
See What Our Guests are Saying
I now refer my friends, family and colleagues, as well as book all of my tours, accommodation and flights with Maika because I feel very lucky to have finally found an organisation in Asia that gives me the confidence to do so.
The tour was very well organized, and the guide spoke very good English. We got to see and experience so many things: Besides visiting a pagoda and Buddha statue, we also went on a boat ride (with a stop to enjoy a coconut drink) and visited local businesses producing rice paper, conical hats and mats. We had fresh fruit and tea for a snack and Pho soup for lunch which was delicious! We had such a good day and would highly recommend this tour!
We went on this tour, two families of four, with children aged 9-12 years old. We were really happy with it and highly recommend. Lin was our guide and she was fantastic, would really do a trip with her again. It was nice to do this privately and easy to adjust with Lin if needed. Maika helped us book the accommodation in Can Tho which we really appreciated. Would highly recommend and for sure do again.
You did a great job looking after all of our family of 7. The kids enjoyed all the tours and especially the Mekong cruise …as did we……because the kids were so happy we got to enjoy some time to ourselves too. I would recommend Maika Tours if your thinking of visiting Vietnam!
