Itinerary
Let’s Cyclo!
Our guide will pick you up at your hotel which is located very centrally in District 1. From there, you’ll be introduced to your driver and hop on your cyclo. You’ll see unique aspects of Ho Chi Minh City’s culture and be immersed in it from the get-go! After what promises to be an exciting ride, we’ll arrive at the stunning Reunification Palace while your knowledgeable guide tells you all about its history and significance. We don’t enter the landmark on this tour, but it’s a great chance to learn about the exceptional building and snap some pictures too!
More Unmissable Architecture
Next, we’ll head to the famous Notre Dame Cathedral and the Post Office where you’ll get to admire the interior of these French Colonial buildings. Then your guide will show you the historic CIA Building where the last U.S Helicopter flew out of HCMC in 1975. You’ll learn all about the last U.S Operation, Frequent Wind. Please note, we are currently unable to enter the Notre Dame Cathedral as it is closed for renovation.
See HCMC’s Most Iconic Spots
Once we’ve marvelled at the French architecture, we’ll get back on our cyclos and enjoy a quick ride to the Hotel Continental complex where Graham Greene and many other famous writers called home during their Vietnam stay. You’ll see the roadside cafe at the hotel along with the impressive Opera House where scenes from “The Quiet American” were filmed. The City Hall and the Historic Rex Hotel are up next and your guide will fill you in on both building’s history.
See The City Like A Local
From the Rex Hotel, we’ll hop back on the cyclos for a 30-minute ride along Nguyen Hue Street, one of the most beautiful streets in the whole city. Now’s your chance to experience the real Ho Chi Minh City just as a local does! Gaze at the Saigon River and other impressive landmarks such as the city’s tallest building, the mighty Bitexco! We will then head through the Old Market which is crammed full of food produce and street food stalls.
The Adventure’s Not Over Yet!
After the market, we continue our tour bypassing some of the city’s Indian Temples, Ben Thanh Market and Tao Dan Park. Then it is on to the memorial of Thich Quang Duc, where your knowledgeable guide will explain its history and significance. Then, we cyclo to our last stop – the War Remnants Museum where we say goodbye to our drivers. This museum is a must-see spot to learn about the Vietnam War from a different perspective. Vietnam has a very upsetting and moving past, and this museum will certainly move you as you learn more about the sad history and the effects of the war that are still apparent today.
Back To The Hotel
After an unforgettable and memorable tour, we will catch the taxi and drop you off at your accommodation. Before farewell to our guide, please make sure you get good recommendations from him/her for more ideas on where to go in the city.
See What Our Guests are Saying
I now refer my friends, family and colleagues, as well as book all of my tours, accommodation and flights with Maika because I feel very lucky to have finally found an organisation in Asia that gives me the confidence to do so.
The tour was very well organized, and the guide spoke very good English. We got to see and experience so many things: Besides visiting a pagoda and Buddha statue, we also went on a boat ride (with a stop to enjoy a coconut drink) and visited local businesses producing rice paper, conical hats and mats. We had fresh fruit and tea for a snack and Pho soup for lunch which was delicious! We had such a good day and would highly recommend this tour!
We went on this tour, two families of four, with children aged 9-12 years old. We were really happy with it and highly recommend. Lin was our guide and she was fantastic, would really do a trip with her again. It was nice to do this privately and easy to adjust with Lin if needed. Maika helped us book the accommodation in Can Tho which we really appreciated. Would highly recommend and for sure do again.
You did a great job looking after all of our family of 7. The kids enjoyed all the tours and especially the Mekong cruise …as did we……because the kids were so happy we got to enjoy some time to ourselves too. I would recommend Maika Tours if your thinking of visiting Vietnam!
