Itinerary
Hanoi’s Historic Sites!
Your private, English-speaking guide will be waiting for you at Cai Lan (Halong) Port or Hai Phong Port with a welcome sign and warm greeting before transferring to an air-conditioned vehicle for an exciting exploration of this fascinating region. Our first stop is to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, where we will learn about revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh. There will be an opportunity to take pictures of this historic site! Then, we move to B52 Ho Huu Tiep Lake. The lake is an eerie reminder of the Vietnam War, where a B-52 bomber was shot down just before the war ended. The wreckage in the middle of this otherwise tranquil lake is a powerful reminder of the human cost of conflict.
Traditional Lunch & Sightseeing
Vietnam’s capital is renowned for its historical architecture, and Southeast Asian, French, and Chinese influences can be felt here. A perfect example of this historical architecture is the perfectly preserved Temple of Literature, which was Vietnam’s first national university. Built in 1070, the Temple of Literature is often considered one of Hanoi’s most attractive landmarks. This building is a perfect example of traditional Vietnamese architecture.
Next, we will enjoy a local, North Vietnamese lunch before heading to Hoa Lo Museum, also known as Hanoi Hilton. This former prison, used by French colonists for prisoners of war, is one of Hanoi’s most historically significant sites.
Explore the Old Quarter
Hanoi’s Old Quarter, dating back to the 13th century, is a lively hub with countless stores selling every item imaginable, temples, religious landmarks, and hundreds of motorbikes! This exciting and sometimes overwhelming labyrinth of ancient streets is a must-see for tourists who want to get a sense of the cultural and historical importance of this fascinating city. To escape the hustle and bustle of the Old Quarter’s madness, we’ll head to Hoan Kiem Lake. This tranquil lake surrounds Ngoc Son Temple which lies majestically on a small island in the centre of the lake. If you would like to explore on your own terms, simply decide a meetup time with your guide and they will return you to your cruise in plenty of time! Remember, this tour is completely customisable, so you can craft your ideal Hanoi adventure!
See What Our Guests are Saying
I now refer my friends, family and colleagues, as well as book all of my tours, accommodation and flights with Maika because I feel very lucky to have finally found an organisation in Asia that gives me the confidence to do so.
The tour was very well organized, and the guide spoke very good English. We got to see and experience so many things: Besides visiting a pagoda and Buddha statue, we also went on a boat ride (with a stop to enjoy a coconut drink) and visited local businesses producing rice paper, conical hats and mats. We had fresh fruit and tea for a snack and Pho soup for lunch which was delicious! We had such a good day and would highly recommend this tour!
We went on this tour, two families of four, with children aged 9-12 years old. We were really happy with it and highly recommend. Lin was our guide and she was fantastic, would really do a trip with her again. It was nice to do this privately and easy to adjust with Lin if needed. Maika helped us book the accommodation in Can Tho which we really appreciated. Would highly recommend and for sure do again.
You did a great job looking after all of our family of 7. The kids enjoyed all the tours and especially the Mekong cruise …as did we……because the kids were so happy we got to enjoy some time to ourselves too. I would recommend Maika Tours if your thinking of visiting Vietnam!
